“during a recent spring, in my pockets of tranquillity,

i read “The Book of Joy”. 

the book is essentially transcribed conversations between the Dalai Lama and (the late) Archbishop Desmond Tutu;  two spiritual leaders and arguably the most unlikely of friends.

in the chapter titled “Our Greatest Joy”, Tutu introduced the concept of ubuntu, wherein he explained the joy that is achieved through the connection to others, regardless of depth. as i sat more and more with this idea, it began to resonate with me further. 

everything i am is a direct representation of those around me,

and shared humanity has led to some of my most meaningful growth. 

from the longest relationships to the smallest interactions, there are countless points in which connection has pivoted my life to end up on this exact path. 

the concept of ubuntu can be applied to so many contexts and looked at through so many lenses;

so i let it guide the way.”
